360° Cameras
A 360° camera, such as the UniFi AI 360 or G6 Pro 360, sees the whole room through a fisheye lens: its picture is a round, curved view of everything around it. Mounted on the ceiling, PanoPaper shows it flattened - like an ordinary camera standing in the room, with straight lines straight, that you can turn to look anywhere, from the horizon all the way down.
Flattened or fisheye
In Settings ▸ Displays, a 360° camera has a View pop-up:
- Flattened (the default) - a natural view of part of the room.
- Fisheye - the round picture as the camera sends it. You can zoom and move it like any other camera's picture - see Zooming and Looking Around.
Looking around
In the flattened view, the Displays preview turns the view instead of moving a picture:
- Drag to look around; the room follows the pointer.
- Scroll, pinch, or the Zoom In / Zoom Out buttons zoom in and out, up to 8 times.
- Double-click turns to that spot and zooms in on it.
- The Widest View button (or 0) zooms all the way out, still looking the same way.
- With the preview selected, the arrow keys look around and + / - zoom.
At its widest, the view is as wide as the one UniFi Protect shows. On a clear desktop, the same keys turn the wallpaper directly - see Desktop Keys.
Slowly look around
Turn on 'Slowly look around' and the view turns once around the room every minute, by itself. When you move the view, it waits, and carries on from there three seconds after you let go. The wallpaper and the preview always show the same view.
Smooth turning
On a desktop Mac, the slow turn is always drawn at 60 frames per second, for a perfectly smooth motion. On a Mac laptop, 'Smooth turning (60 fps)' under 'Slowly look around' makes that a choice: it is on by default, and turning it off halves the frames drawn while turning, to save battery. Behind windows, a turning view is drawn at 30 frames per second with smooth turning, or 15 without.
Cameras on a wall or a desk
Only a ceiling-mounted 360° camera can be flattened so far. For one on a wall or a desk, the Displays tab says so - "Only ceiling-mounted cameras can be flattened. UniFi Protect says this one is on a wall." - and shows its round picture. PanoPaper reads the mount position from the camera's settings in UniFi Protect; if it is wrong there, correct it in Protect.
Remembered for each camera
The view, where it looks, how far it is zoomed, and whether it slowly looks around are kept for each camera on each display - in the Web Edition, on each Space.
