General Settings

The General tab of Settings: starting at login, how the video looks behind windows, the camera's sound, and updates.

'Open PanoPaper at login' starts PanoPaper whenever you log in to your Mac, with each display's camera back in place. PanoPaper then also appears among the Login Items in System Settings ▸ General, where you can turn it off as well; the checkbox always shows what is set there.

Sometimes macOS wants your approval first. Then a note says "PanoPaper needs your approval in System Settings to open at login." Click 'Open Login Items Settings…' and turn PanoPaper on there.

Behind windows

How the video looks while windows cover it:

Dim - darkens the video.
Fade - lays the color over the video; at 100% it is a plain color.
Tint - gives the video the color's hue.
Color - the color for Fade and Tint: the color well, or 'Pick from Wallpaper…' to click a color on your normal wallpaper.

Below the box, 'Also apply when no windows cover the desktop' keeps them with a clear desktop too. See Behind Windows.

Sound

Volume - while no windows cover the main display.
Behind windows - the volume while windows cover it.
Output - which speakers play the camera.
Mute shortcut - mutes and unmutes from any app. 'Clear' removes it.
Mute - the camera's sound is off (the default).

Updates

In the Web Edition, 'Check for updates automatically' (on by default) looks for a new version once a day and shows a red dot on the menu bar icon when there is one. See Updates.
