PTZ Cameras
A PTZ camera - pan, tilt, zoom - such as the UniFi G5 PTZ can turn and zoom on command. If your account may move it, the preview in Settings ▸ Displays moves the camera itself instead of zooming into its picture, and the wallpaper shows the camera's whole picture.
Moving the camera changes the picture for everyone who watches it, and what it records.
Turning the camera
- Drag in the preview like a joystick: the farther you drag from where you started, the faster the camera turns, and the picture follows the pointer. Let go and it stops.
- With the preview selected, hold an arrow key to turn it; release the key and it stops.
Zooming
Scroll, pinch, double-click, + / -, or the Zoom In / Zoom Out buttons zoom the camera's lens.
Home and presets
The Home button in the preview (or 0) sends the camera to its Home position. The Presets row's 'Go To' menu lists Home and the presets saved for the camera in UniFi Protect; choose one and the camera turns there.
UniFi Protect can send the camera back Home by itself after a while without commands - a setting of the camera in Protect.
On the desktop
On a clear desktop, the keyboard steers a PTZ camera directly: hold the arrow keys to turn it and + / - to zoom, and press 0 to send it Home. See Desktop Keys.
When the camera may not be moved
Moving a PTZ camera takes the PTZ control right in UniFi Protect - the line under the NVR list in Settings ▸ NVRs says whether your account has it. Without it, the Displays tab says "Your UniFi Protect account may not move this camera, so it cannot be turned here.", the 'Go To' menu is greyed out, and the preview zooms digitally, as for any other camera.
If the NVR refuses a move even so, PanoPaper treats the camera as one it may not move until you quit and open PanoPaper again.
