Shortcuts and Siri
PanoPaper's actions are in the Shortcuts app, so you can run them from a shortcut, by asking Siri, or from Spotlight - show the camera at the door when you get home, say, or send yourself a picture from a camera. There's nothing to set up, and if PanoPaper isn't running, an action starts it.
The actions
- Show Camera - shows a camera as the live wallpaper of a display.
- Show All Cameras - every camera in a grid, or the cameras of one NVR.
- Show Wallpaper - your normal wallpaper again, without a camera.
- Get Current Camera - the camera a display shows now, for the rest of your shortcut.
- Hide Cameras - turns Hide Cameras on or off, or the other way round, like its button in the menu bar panel.
- Full Screen - shows a camera full screen, or ends Full Screen.
- Camera Audio - mutes or unmutes the camera you hear.
- Detections - turns detections on or off.
- Get Camera Picture - a camera's picture as it is now, as an image to send, save or show.
- Set Camera Audio Volume - sets how loud the camera audio plays: now, at full volume, or behind windows.
- Set Camera Audio Options - where the camera audio plays, and whether the behind-windows volume also plays on a clear desktop.
- Set Look Behind Windows - how much the cameras dim and fade behind windows, the color they fade into, and whether on a clear desktop too.
- Set Camera Names - shows or hides the camera names and keys, and the camera bar.
- Set Display Quality - High, Medium or Low for a display.
- Set 360° View - Flattened or Fisheye, slowly looking around and smooth turning for a 360° camera - the one a display shows now, or one you choose for when it shows there.
- Set All Cameras Layout - fill each tile or show whole pictures, and the quality of All Cameras.
- Go to PTZ Preset - turns a PTZ camera to Home or to one of its presets.
- Set Detection Settings - what PanoPaper looks for and how it tells you. Set Camera Detections turns detections on or off for one camera.
- Rename Camera, Rename NVR - names of your own: leave the name empty for the original one.
- Enable or Disable Camera, Enable or Disable NVR - sets a camera or an NVR aside for a while, or brings it back, like 'Disable' in Settings ▸ Cameras. A camera's and an NVR's Disabled tells your shortcut whether it is.
- Set Open at Login - opens PanoPaper when you log in, or not. In the Web Edition, Set Automatic Update Checks and Check for Updates are there too.
- Go Live - broadcasts a camera live on YouTube, Facebook or your custom server, as set in Settings ▸ Broadcast - the camera chosen there unless you choose one. Already live, another camera takes over the broadcast. Stop Broadcast ends it on one service, or on all.
- Set Broadcast Turns - lets several cameras take turns on the broadcast, like Take Turns in Settings ▸ Broadcast: which cameras, how often the next one takes over, and whether a camera holds its turn while it detects someone.
- Open PanoPaper - the menu bar panel, a Settings tab or this Help.
- Get PanoPaper Status - how PanoPaper is set now: hidden cameras, Full Screen, audio and its volumes, the look behind windows, detections, whether and where you're live, Open at Login and more. Pick the detail your shortcut needs.
- Get Recent Detections - the detections of the last hour: which camera, what it saw and when.
An action that sets several things changes only the ones you choose - the rest stay as they are.
An action that shows something uses the main display - the one with the menu bar - unless you choose another, and works on the desktop that's on screen, like choosing a camera in the menu bar panel.
Cameras are named as PanoPaper shows them, with the names you gave them (see Renaming NVRs and cameras). A shortcut keeps working when you rename a camera.
Asking Siri
Siri understands these requests without any setup:
- "Show camera in PanoPaper"
- "Show all cameras in PanoPaper"
- "Show my wallpaper in PanoPaper"
- "Hide cameras in PanoPaper"
- "Show cameras in PanoPaper"
- "Full screen in PanoPaper"
- "Mute PanoPaper"
- "Unmute PanoPaper"
- "Turn on detections in PanoPaper"
- "Get a picture from camera with PanoPaper"
Siri on the Mac doesn't speak every language PanoPaper does. Where it doesn't, the actions are still in the Shortcuts app.
In Spotlight
Type a camera's name in Spotlight to find it, and open it to show it on the main display. PanoPaper's actions are in Spotlight too.
When someone is detected
A shortcut can run each time PanoPaper detects someone. Turn on 'Show in Notification Center' in Detections settings. Then, in the Shortcuts app, add an automation that runs when you receive a notification from PanoPaper.
Each notification's title says what was seen and where, like "Person at Port Dome". To react to people only, add the condition that the title contains "Person". To see the moment, add Get Camera Picture: it gets the camera's own picture, even while windows cover your desktop.
In the Web Edition, PanoPaper can also run a shortcut itself, without Notification Center: turn on 'Run a shortcut' in Detections settings and choose the shortcut beside it. Its input is the camera's picture, named like the notification: "Person at Port Dome".
When you go live
In the Web Edition, a shortcut can also run when you go live and when you stop: choose it under 'Run a shortcut' in When You Go Live, in Broadcast settings. Its input is a small JSON file that says what happened and holds the link to watch. See Broadcast Automation.
In the free version
Every action works in the free version too. A picture from Get Camera Picture, or the one a detection's shortcut gets, carries “UNLICENSED”, like every camera picture. See The free version.
